Seasonal Ecologist – West Midlands

Midland Ecology provide a variety of ecological surveys and services across the Midlands. We work on a wide range of projects; from small residential extensions, to large multi-phase housing and national infrastructure projects.

Due to expansion, we are looking to recruit full time and/or part time seasonal field assistants to support the existing team with a variety of duties. The role will be both desk and field based. We will consider applications from undergraduates/graduates of ecology or related disciplines.

The main duties will include preparing desk studies, mapping, collating survey results and writing reports, undertaking bat emergence/re-entry surveys, Ecological Clerk of works site supervision, supporting ecologists on other protected species survey visits.

You must be committed, enthusiastic and reliable, with good attention to detail and concentration skills. This role will provide great experience and insight into a potential future career in ecology and for the right candidates may lead to a permanent position. Immediate start available. Full training will be provided.

Essential Requirements:

• Degree (or working towards) in ecology or related discipline
• MS Office skills
• Excellent report writing skills
• Motivated to work both independently and in a team; in remote locations and during unsociable hours
• UK driving licence
• Ability to work from home and the office
• Excellent organisation and communication skills
• Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines

Desirable Skills/Experience:

• Previous work experience/volunteering in an ecology consultancy
• Experience undertaking bat emergence/re-entry surveys
• Own Vehicle for site visits across the Midlands
• Bat sonogram analysis experience
• QGIS experience
• CSCS card/First Aid qualification
