We’re looking for a Million Trees Project Officer to join our Trees and Woodlands team within Derbyshire County Council’s Countryside Service.

This role will focus on the development and delivery of the Council’s Million Trees Project, to promote and facilitate public and corporate participation in tree planting, woodland creation and habitat restoration to achieve and exceed the project target of 1 million trees by 2030.

A good proportion of this role will involve community outreach through workshops and events as well as working closely with colleagues in Countryside and the Environment Studies team.

In this role you will:

  • Promote and encourage community engagement in the Million Trees Project through the development of appropriate tree planting, woodland creation and habitat restoration projects.
  • Undertake the preparation of work and project plans associated with the project having regard to relevant Derbyshire County Council strategies and priorities.
  • Co-ordinate activities within the County Council which relate to the Million Trees project and keep officers and members informed of progress
  • Liaise with partner land managers and owners from relevant land use sectors encouraging their participation and engagement in tree planting, woodland creation and related habitat restoration in support of the Million Trees Project
  • Identify, prepare and submit grant funding applications in support of the Million Trees Project planting schemes, events etc. on behalf of the Council or partner organisations, community groups etc.
  • Management, monitoring, and reporting on project budgets in accordance with the requirements of funding agencies.
  • Lead delivery of planting schemes within the County Council to ensure effective delivery against the Million Trees plan target.

Our Woodlands team is contractually based in Matlock, Derbyshire, but as part of our Modern Ways of Working programme we are currently working on a hybrid basis. There'll be an opportunity to discuss future working arrangements at interview.
