Wokingham Borough Council is seeking to recruit a highly motivated professional ecologist to work within our specialist green infrastructure team providing advice to officers across the council.
Working with the Senior Ecology Officer, you will provide specialist ecological advice to the Planning Service and other Corporate services to protect and promote the natural assets of Wokingham. This will include assessing and responding to planning consultations, taking the lead on advising council services, including facilities, property and delivery team on managing assets in a biodiversity-friendly manner, assisting in developing and implementing an approach to biodiversity net gain, reviewing ecological appraisals and mitigation proposals and leading on the implementation of the Borough Biodiversity Action Plan.
You will have experience of assessing the impacts of development on wildlife, how to mitigate or compensate for impacts, and using the Defra metric to demonstrate biodiversity enhancement through the course of development. You will have a good understanding of the planning system including ecological legislation and case law applicable when determining planning applications.
You will have strong analytical skills and be able to assimilate information from a diverse range of sources to evidence your advice. You will be able to communicate and engage effectively with stakeholders with various levels of understanding of your specialism to ensure that the council’s duties to wildlife and biodiversity are fulfilled.
