Countryside Team vacancies

BCP Council's Countryside Team is recruiting in to a number of posts and we are looking for new starters as soon as possible. Joining a team full of passion, expertise and commitment to protecting BCP's many and varied natural spaces, we are looking for team players with a range of experience and flexible countryside skills.

BCP Council owns and manages land in stunning locations along the River Stour, on our urban heaths, seafront, cliffs and at Hengistbury Head; we graze goats, ponies, sheep and various breeds of cows; we work closely with our fantastic volunteers who support our work and liaise closely with a range of partners.

It is essential you can work positively in a team and contribute to making our heathlands safe for visitors and maximising their wildlife potential. You should be passionate about nature and playing your part in making a practical difference to our nature reserves.

We are seeking:

  • 2 Natural Habitats Operatives to complement existing teams, one each to be based at Hengistbury Head and in Poole. The role is practical and hands-on, making a very real difference to our Countryside estate maintenance and management - Natural Habitats Operative (
  • The Assistant Ranger role is an exciting opportunity to work across various countryside sites, managing placements, volunteers and contractors, ensuring livestock are well looked after, undertaking wildlife surveys and habitat management and much more - Assistant Ranger (
  • The Heathland Mitigation Warden role will provide a presence on heathland and SANG sites, to help reduce wildlife disturbance and promote responsible use. This includes engaging with and supporting the local community (e.g. Friends groups) through events and general education of site users - Heathland Mitigation Warden (
  • The seasonal Heathland Assistant Ranger role will provide a site presence to inform the public about the protection heathlands require, limiting the impact of dogs, fires and other urban pressures. Working as part of a Heathland mitigation team you will patrol sites, undertake maintenance with volunteers and support all aspects of countryside management - Heathland Assistant Ranger (Seasonal) (
