Countryside Manager

An exciting position as a Countryside Manager is offered on a mixed traditional estate which includes open parkland, woodland, a stretch of the River Stour and let farms and property. At the heart of the estate is Godinton House; a fine Jacobean mansion with formal gardens open to the public.

The Role

The ‘hands-on’ role will include the following elements:

  • Responsibility for the routine maintenance of the estate to include woodland management, conservation and wildlife management, fencing, tree planting, pest control, river management, and environmental stewardship.
  • Leading the estate maintenance team and volunteers, as well as coordinating contractors.
  • Ensuring safe working practices of the estate team to include undertaking risk assessments and keeping relevant records.
  • Engaging with visitors and contributing towards the estate’s educational programme in conjunction with the wider estate team.

The Countryside Manager will report directly to the Estate Manager, and training will be provided as may be required.

The Individual

We are looking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic individual with the following attributes:

  • Demonstrable experience and competence in countryside management activities, including fencing, woodland management, wildlife management and general estate maintenance.
  • Experience working as both a team leader and independently.
  • A relevant professional qualification in Countryside, Environmental or Woodland Management.
  • Energy and enthusiasm to engage with estate visitors and contribute to the educational programme in relation to its nature based content.
  • A willingness to collaborate with team members and to adapt to a wide ranging set of tasks with a proactive and problem solving approach.
  • Good communication skills and an ability to organise, administer and manage staff members as required
  • A good understanding of health and safety legislation relevant to the role
  • A valid driving licence including Category F and competence in operating estate maintenance machinery.
  • Chainsaw certificate for maintenance, cross cutting and small fell (CS30 & 31)
  • Preferably PA1 and PA6 spray certificates

The Package

  • A competitive salary package dependent on experience and qualification
  • Start date: as soon as possible.
  • Daily working hours are 7.30am to 4.30pm.
  • Holiday entitlement is 20 days annually plus bank holidays
