Catchment Management Officer

Salary £26,244 to £29,340 (Grade 4)

Base Location Havant

We are looking to appoint a Catchment Management Officer who will be responsible for supporting the delivery of our Catchment Management Programme for water quality protection.

This is an exciting opportunity to get involved in a range of projects and work in the Catchment & Environment Team, as the Catchment Management Officer you will undertake catchment management activities, including the delivery of Portsmouth Water’s catchment incentive schemes, pollution prevention campaigns and catchment risk assessments. The role will include engaging with farmers and landowners. There are opportunities for flexible working arrangements and the role will be both field and office based.

Day to day activities include:

  • Delivery of water company catchment schemes, focusing on diffuse pollution of groundwater from nitrates and other water quality risks.
  • Delivery of solo and joint advisory and engagements visits with farmers and landowners.
  • Undertaking farmer training events and workshops.
  • Promoting Portsmouth Water’s catchment incentive schemes that rewards farmers in target catchments for adopting farming practices which result in lower nutrient and pesticide losses to water.
  • Undertaking catchment research and trial work.
  • Liaising with Catchment Sensitive Farming Officers to deliver associated projects.
  • Developing new relationships with farmers, including on water quality initiatives, as well as biodiversity opportunities.
  • Working with and supporting other teams on catchment risks and biodiversity initiatives.
  • Supporting our consultation responses to local developments to protect water quality & resources.

No experience of the water industry is required, as full training will be provided, but a positive attitude to providing excellent customer service is an essential attribute for anyone who wishes to succeed in this role. There may be a requirement to carry out some out of hours activities.
