Graduate Trainee Programme (Ecology)
Location: Leeds
Period 1 Year fixed contract

We are looking to invest in someone who is keen to kickstart their career in Ecology.

This post is intended to fast track graduates into the profession of ecological consultancy. You will be trained ‘on the job’ and have a dedicated supervisor who will assess the levels of competency attained.

The role can allow you to progress on one of two paths within Brooks Ecological, the Consultant or the Field work path.

The field work path is intended for people who have a strong preference for surveying and reporting but do not wish to become Consultants (client liaison, project management etc.).

Modules to be completed

  • Health and safety for ecological consultants
  • Introduction to UK Habitats
  • Qgis for Ecological Reporting
  • Desk studies and PEA templates
  • Assessing buildings and trees for Bat Roosting Suitability
  • Nesting bird assessment
  • Bat emergence survey
  • Bat sound analysis using Kaleidoscope
  • Use of thermography in ecological consultancy
  • Introduction to Biodiversity Net Gain and DEFRA metric.

Minimum Requirements

Degree in the Environmental sector,

Full UK driving licence

Preferably access to own vehicle.

This role will involve some travel and working outside in field locations as well as evening work during survey season.

  • At least 2 years relevant experience.
  • Open to flexible working regarding type of work and location with some night-time work required during survey season.
  • Full UK driving licence
