Ecologists and Senior / Principal Ecologists
Due to the ongoing success of the company Pioneer Environment Group Ltd is looking to expand our team. Pioneer Environment Group Ltd. is a small, friendly, ambitious consultancy working across the Midlands and beyond. We provide a complete ecology and habitat service, from baseline & protected species surveys, fieldwork, impact assessments, biodiversity management to habitat creation/restoration. Competitive salaries offered, dependant on the role and experience, with annual bonus (up to 5% company performance/5% personal performance)
Immediate start required, or as soon as possible. All roles are full-time permanent positions, with an initial probation period.
All roles require:
- Educated to degree standard in an ecological/environmental discipline
- Full, UK driving licence and own car
- Willingness to travel and undertake fieldwork around the UK (including overnight stays)
- Willingness to undertake surveys in early mornings or late evenings
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Good computer skills and confident technology user
- Enthusiasm for the sector and ability to work effectively in a small team
- Self-motivation, and the ability to work independently
Ecologist roles: £27,000-£30,000 per annum
You will provide technical support on a range of projects including planning applications, biodiversity offsetting and mitigation projects. You will lead projects, manage assistants and sub-contractors to deliver a high-quality service.
- A good amount of experience, within an ecological consultancy role; managing projects and as an ecological clerk of works
- Broad understanding of UK wildlife legislation, CIEEM and BCT Guidelines
- Familiarity with biodiversity survey/monitoring methods including Phase 1 habitat survey and the EIA/EcIA processes and biodiversity net gain work.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, make robust, defensible decisions and work to tight deadlines to meet client needs;
- Working towards a protected species licence
- GIS skills and protected species licence(s): Desirable
Senior Ecologist roles: £32,000-£40,000 per annum
You will take the lead on larger or more complex projects, managing both staff and subcontractors. You will nurture and encourage development of less experienced staff. As a senior ecologist you will be input into the survey guidance for the company and troubleshoot for less experienced staff.
- A substantial amount of experience, within an ecological consultancy role; managing projects and working as an ecological clerk of works
- Experience undertaking & leading on UK Habitat and protected species surveys
- Hold at least one UK protected species licence. e.g. bats
- Ability to lead teams in the field and manage complex projects
- Confident quoting for new work and designing and scheduling surveys
- Comfortable networking, liaising with large companies and working with the directors to generate new work
Principal Ecologist: £40,000-£60,000 per annum
You will plan and oversee all aspects of large complex projects, ensuring that all time, budget and quality targets are met. You will lead on preparing tenders for large projects and contribute to business development. Provide staff management and support less experienced staff with project management and expertise to ensure that all projects company wide are delivered to a high standard. Contribute to internal training and staff development.
- In depth knowledge & experience of ecological and biodiversity measures, environmental and ecological impact assessment legislation, policy and guidance.
- Proven capability writing and delivering Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs), Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments, Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs) and Ecology Chapters for Environmental Statements which have been successfully consented. Experience within large scale developments especially desirable.
- Proven track record in writing project / plan-level Habitat Regulation Assessments (HRAs).
- Excellent project management skills and experience of business development, high level of commercial awareness.
- Hold multiple protected species licenses and have been a named ecologist on mitigation licences.
- Experience managing quality assurance across teams
- Contribute to the design and compliance of protocols across the company.
