Salary: £31,791 per annum
Contract type: Fixed term / Working hours: Full time
Location: Dorset Wildlife Trust HQ, Brooklands Farm, Forston, Dorchester, Dorset, DT2 7AA
This is an exciting opportunity to lead and develop the newly-formed Dorset Peat Partnership and build capacity for local delivery of peatland restoration. You will be responsible for gathering the information needed to apply for future rounds of the Peatland Restoration Grant Peatlands are amongst our most precious wildlife habitats, but in Dorset have been subject to past loss, fragmentation and drainage. There is an urgent need for restoration to benefit wildlife and to capture carbon. You will lead the investigation and development of opportunities for restoration on a suite of sites within southern and eastern Dorset. You will work with partners and land owners/managers of some 75 sites to build support, establish baselines, assess feasibility and produce a shared, co-created implementation plan for mire restoration across the Dorset Heaths.
The post is a full time, fixed term position until 31 March 2023. It is funded by Defra’s Nature for Climate Peatland Discovery Grant, led by Dorset Wildlife Trust on behalf of Dorset Catchment Partnerships, with an over-arching aim to unlock barriers to peatland restoration and gain funding for action.
An excellent communicator and project manager is required, with strong experience of UK habitat restoration, preferably including lowland peatland/mire, and of working in partnership.
DWT operates a hybrid working model involving a mix of home working and workplace attendance, with the workplace being either Brooklands Farm or the Urban Wildlife Centre.
