Only a short ferry crossing from the British mainland, the Isle of Wight is renowned for its tranquillity, stunning landscapes and diverse habitats.

More than 5000 acres of coast and countryside across the Isle of Wight is in the care of the National Trust. This includes some of the best quality chalk grassland in the UK, woodlands supporting populations of red squirrel, heathland where nightjars nest; coastal undercliffs with rare insects such as the Glanville fritillary.

With your endless passion for our work, you’ll help to deliver outstanding outdoors experiences and excellent conservation work, protecting habitats, wildlife and property. You'll be working across the Island as part of a small and dedicated team.

Most of our countryside is highly protected as Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and includes the Island’s only National Nature Reserve at Newtown Harbour. You'll help care for our own flocks of Hebridean sheep and Old English goats that graze many of our places and are a crucial part of our grassland conservation. You'll join us as we embark on an exciting journey to bring an abundance of nature back to all our farmed landscapes.

Working as part of the countryside team across the Island, the emphasis of this role is estate maintenance and habitat management, implementing our ambitious targets to make all our land rich in wildlife.

You’ll need to;

  • Demonstrate a passion for nature, heritage and the outdoors
  • Able to engage with visitors to ensure they understand the value of your work
  • Be enthusiastic with a willingness to learn
  • Be an excellent team player
  • Be able to work safely, with risk assessments and compliance with safety procedures
  • Experience in a land, access and conservation management
