Thetford Forest is the UK’s largest man-made lowland forest. Rendlesham forest centre is located within the Sandlings on the Suffolk cost. Both produce sustainable timber, safeguards historic features, and provides some of the country’s most important environments and habitats. Alongside this work, Forestry England provide a wide range of formal and informal recreation and forest access facilities across these areas.

A key aim for Recreation within Thetford Forest and Rendlesham is to provide opportunities for the public to have access and engage with the forest, telling our story and bringing the important work that Forestry England undertake to everyday users, while also growing and diversify the business in an appropriate and sustainable way.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an experienced team delivering work across a large outdoor environment and two separate locations with their own specific requirements. You will provide energetic leadership to develop a ‘one team’ culture across a wide range of staff, stakeholders and departments.

You will work closely with the senior management team to develop and manage a long term business plan with sustainable recreation offers, taking on the financial manger role for your cost centre/s. You will be accountable for the day-to-day management of recreation leases, contracts and key facilities, including buildings, permissions/permits, trails, play areas, events and social media, while leading a recreation team in achieving best practice compliance.

Key objective of the role is to develop a positive, collaborative, and inclusive environment for staff, volunteers, stakeholders and visitors; strengthening the health and safety culture as Forestry England strives to fulfil our corporate value of ‘Look Out & Look After’

You will use your creativity and communication skills to both inspire and motivate your team in achieving challenging objectives. Lead delivery, marketing, and communication plans, that identifying new and interactive ways for Forestry England to fulfil its aims of health and wellbeing for all through connections with nature in our nation’s forests. The role brings with it exciting opportunities to ‘tell our story’ and seek new business opportunities across a varied landscape, deal with difficult situations and proactively problem solve.
