Working in some of the nation’s most stunning places and spaces, your love of the outdoors will inspire others as you strive to ensure that landscapes are beautifully presented and continue to take our visitors’ breath away.

As the Area Ranger you'll manage a small team working with you throughout the property: following the lead from the Property’s Business Plan you'll build and manage an effective and flexible work programme. You'll support your team in undertaking engagement and conservation work, contributing towards Higher Level Stewardship targets.

You'll play the key role in maintaining excellent standards of presentation and property maintenance, successfully achieving Conservation Performance Indicator targets. You'll build and maintain strong professional relationships with colleagues, contractors, tenants, and neighbouring land managers. You'll appreciate the need for our countryside sites to bring in income, so your business ideas will play an important part in the team’s success.

You'll take care of both the ornamental and woodland trees by assisting with the Tree Inspections and surveying for health and safety for our visitors.

To deliver this role successfully, you will need to:

  • Have practical experience of countryside/rural skills include fencing and bridges
  • Hold a full driving licence and be Competent with operating a good range of machinery with relevant Lantra or equivalent licences including chainsaws, brush cutters, tractors, trailers and mowers and Handheld chemical spraying licence
  • Have evidence of good people management and leadership and be able to organise and prioritise work
  • Have a proven track record of managing and leading on health and safety and environmental compliance
  • Be able to manage contractors and small projects, including budgets.

And you'll need to demonstrate the following experience on your CV/Application.

  • Diploma/NVQ3 or higher in countryside or environmental conservation
  • Knowledge of Trees including identification of species for surveying for High Winds and Health and Safety
  • Empathy with, and significant experience of, working with volunteers
