We are looking for a well organised self-starter to join our small team on the Basingstoke Canal. This new role in the team will take the lead on inspection of the Canal's assets, working closely with the Canal Manager and Canal Engineer while also supporting the Waterway Ranger team in practical management of the Canal.
Crossing the Hampshire and Surrey Borders, the 32-mile Basingstoke Canal is a designated SSSI and highly used recreation resource. With 29 Locks and numerous bridges, structures and embankments, the 200-year-old, tree lined waterway demands constant attention. You will be at the forefront of this joining a small team to take the lead on asset safety as well as managing boating, conservation, recreation, and water levels.
The role will include the requirement to carry out 24hr 'Duty' cover which will involve working weekends on a rota basis to provide emergency response. This also requires the Ranger to live within close proximity to the centre point of the Canal (GU16 6DD) to be able to fulfil emergency response timescales.
