Reserve Warden

£18,745 per annum

We are looking for a hardworking and enthusiastic individual to join our team and assist with the development and running of Castle Espie nature reserve for nature and people.

Castle Espie provides a window on Wetlands, the work of the WWT and Strangford Lough, an area of international ecological importance. The area managed by the WWT at Castle Espie covers 400 hectares and consists of saline lagoons, limestone grassland, saltmarshes and reed beds, all of which take careful management and maintenance in order that they continue to provide a home for diverse wildlife including light bellied brent geese, kingfishers, bats and dragonflies.

In this role you will work outdoors in all weathers taking full responsibility for day to day operations of managing a nature reserve in a public facing environment and deputise for the Reserve Manager when required. You will undertake practical conservation work, ensuring excellent standards of presentation and through engaging with our supporters play a key role in connecting people to the work of the WWT. You will also assist with the supervision and training of our volunteers and ensure that all reserve and website information is monitored, accurate and up to date.

The successful candidate will be educated to higher grade / A-level standard or equivalent with previous nature conservation, land management or agricultural experience. Excellent communication skills and supervisory experience are also essential to the role.
