£27,000 per annum, plus pension and benefits
40 hours per week Monday – Friday plus occasional weekends
Castle Howard, designed by Sir John Vanbrugh in the late 17th century, is one of the most iconic stately homes in Britain. Its 1000 acres of landscaped gardens and grounds are of world renown. In addition to sweeping lawns, two lakes, cascades, fountains, formal and walled gardens the estate also boasts the finest rhododendron and azalea collection in the North of England.
The Estate is looking for a Horticulturist to maximise visitor enjoyment by maintaining excellent standards of presentation and plantswoman/manship within the gardens. Duties will include liaising with the Head of Landscape & Gardens to create work plans and assisting with Health and Safety procedures. This role will also include supervising, on a day to day basis, other employees, volunteers and work placement students ensuring that they are guided and supported throughout their role.
The ideal candidate will have good plant knowledge and know a wide range of horticultural techniques. They will also have an easy manner with colleagues and visitors and be proficient in operating relevant garden machinery.
