Senior/Principal Ecologist and Ecologist

Bowland Brooks Environment is a Joint Venture combining the resources of two leading ecological and environmental consultancies employing over 30 ecologists, landscape architects and arboricultural consultants. Initially home based, we are looking to recruit 1 x Senior/Principal Ecologists and 1 x Ecologist to deliver ecological services in the midlands and south of England.

In the Principal role, you will undertake the following:

  • Project management including resource management for ecological projects
  • Business development including preparing bids, quotes and tenders
  • Line managing staff
  • Designing and leading ecological surveys including for protected species and of freshwater/terrestrial habitats.
  • Preparing and reviewing EcIAs, HRAs and Biodiversity Impact Assessments,
  • Designing mitigation schemes
  • Participating in the technical development of staff, coaching and mentoring on technical issues

Successful candidates will have:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in professional ecology.
  • Detailed knowledge of UK and EC wildlife regulation, planning policy and industry best practice
  • Experience of practical application of mitigation requirements including large scale projects.
  • A minimum qualification of a BSc (Hons) in Ecology.
  • A full driving licence.
  • An adaptable and flexible approach to work.
  • Full member of CIEEM or capable of meeting this status.

In the Ecologist role, you will undertake the following:

  • Carrying out ecological surveys
  • Site supervision (EcOW)
  • Project management
  • Completion of reports for ecological assessments
  • Biodiversity Impact Assessment

Successful candidates will have:

  • A degree in a relevant science or a closely related field
  • CSCS card or equivalent
  • CIEEM membership
  • Experience of ecological surveys in the field
  • A good working knowledge of in the UK regulatory framework for wildlife
  • Ability to write clear and concise reports
  • Current and full driving licence
