Curlew LIFE Project Officer - Northumberland and Cumbria
Reference number: A1431120
Salary: Starting at £21,718 to £24,293 Per Annum
Hours: Full time
Contract: 4 Years
Are you passionate about inspiring people to save nature? Curlew are rapidly declining across the UK and could be lost in some places unless action is taken now. Northern England remains a stronghold for the species so we are looking for a dynamic project officer to enable farmers, volunteers, communities and local partners to successfully deliver a major new project funded through the EU LIFE programme. As part of a bigger UK project to halt the decline of curlew, you will drive the delivery of management interventions, lead the monitoring of the curlew response and inspire many more people from nearby communities to get involved across the Geltsdale/Hadrian's Wall Corridor landscape.
You will like being outdoors, sometimes in challenging terrain and weather, and enabling others to deliver project outputs and objectives to agreed standards of cost, quality and time. You will have knowledge of the wildlife and habitats of the area and experience in wader monitoring and survey. It would be desirable to have some experience in delivering land management advice and knowledge of upland land management issues and schemes available to landowners to benefit waders. You will enjoy facilitating community conversations, running events and sharing your skills with others.
The project area encompasses our spectacular upland RSPB reserve at Geltsdale and an area of Hadrian's Wall to the north. This broad area remains a top spot for curlew in England and there are many opportunities to enhance conditions further.
If you think you have what we are looking for to deliver this exciting new project and to help make a difference for curlew then we look forward to receiving your application.
