Role Purpose

There is increasing demand to develop and deliver key species policy areas to support the Nature Emergency and other areas of terrestrial species work. As an organisation we need to ensure linkages are made across all NRW’s work with respect to species conservation and management. In this post you will provide the expert lead on terrestrial species policy and approaches including the development of an NRW Species Programme to focus action, a review of NRW’s Conservation Translocations policy and process and development of the NRW position on reintroductions including beaver and oversight of the Section 7 priority species. You will manage the development of NRW policy, programmes, plans, strategies and guidance relating to terrestrial species. This will translate Welsh & UK Government policy into practical approaches to the point of delivery. You will work with colleagues from other teams in EPP and Operations, officials from WG and sector representatives.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Knowledge of: Welsh, UK and EU legislation related to biodiversity; Welsh, UK Government policy drivers in biodiversity; and the issues and opportunities in Wales.
  • Knowledge and practical understanding of the range of partners and stakeholders involved with biodiversity in Wales.
  • Specialist technical knowledge related to terrestrial species conservation and management techniques.
  • Experience of: In-depth understanding of the relevant technical specialist area and the complex range of drivers and barriers to delivery.
  • Working in a programme and project management environment with Project Management experience and/or qualifications.
  • You will be a member of a relevant professional institution and/or working towards membership
  • Representing the organisation in high profile and contentious issues in the public arena.
  • Share your knowledge and expertise to help solve problems, supporting all Heads of Business in EPP as required.
