The Organisation

We are East Herts Council, covering the District of East Hertfordshire. With a population of approximately 144,000 and around 480 square miles on the eastern side of Hertfordshire, we provide a diverse range of fundamental services to the area and its residents.

We are currently looking for a Community Engagement Officer to join us on a full-time basis for a fixed-term contract until 31st December 2023.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an event and community engagement professional with a track record of managing volunteers to contribute to a stronger local community by promoting our fantastic green spaces.

The Role

As a Community Engagement Officer, you will engage the local community in the development of a lottery-funded project to transform two greenspaces into an exciting new venue called Castle Park.

Working in partnership with Bishop’s Stortford Town Council, you will manage our engagement strategy, ensuring our project has a positive and highly visible public profile. You will specifically target those with additional needs, teenagers, families, retired people and schools.

You will promote awareness and understanding of the new park through a detailed events programme, working with stakeholders, existing users, volunteers and local groups to build the future legacy of the park.

About You

To be considered as a Community Engagement Officer, you will need:

• Experience of event organisation and engaging support from the community
• Experience of managing volunteers and volunteer programmes
• Experience of delivering practical conservation work parties
• Knowledge of greenspace and heritage sectors
• Working knowledge of managing social media accounts
• The ability to form strong working partnerships with external stakeholders and partners
• A full, valid driving licence and access to your own vehicle
