Salary: £28,000-£30,000

Position: Employed, full-time (40 hours per week)

Contract: Three years

Location: Three Hagges Woodmeadow, near Escrick, York and home based.

Reporting to: Director, UK Woodmeadow Network

Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of our ground-breaking UK Woodmeadow Network project. You will work closely with the Director, UK Woodmeadow Network and will be instrumental in the development and success of a number of selected public access woodmeadow projects, which will benefit local communities and the wider remit of nature restoration – creating a lasting legacy where people and wildlife thrive together. The goal for each project will be to enable a beautiful space for nature to flourish in the care of a sustainable, vibrant community organisation.

The Community Engagement Adviser will offer in-depth support to six woodmeadow projects in the first year and then four additional projects over two further years. The ‘selected’ woodmeadow projects will be identified through an application process. Work with these projects will lead to the development of a 'How To' manual with case studies to support other community groups to set up woodmeadows. This will take the form of video as well as a downloadable guide.

We are looking for an outgoing, enthusiastic individual who has experience of working with a range of stakeholders in the successful planning and delivery of community-based projects. Knowledge of wildlife habitats and ecosystems would be an advantage, and above all you need to be passionate about the importance of local communities and their involvement in the environment. This position is funded by The Linbury Trust and is offered as a three-year contract with a six-month probation period.

Three Hagges Woodmeadow is our flagship site is where we provide education, engage the local community, and undertake scientific monitoring and research. We use this exemplar site to inspire and support others to create woodmeadows across the UK.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver an application process for stakeholders to apply for support.
  • Identify potential stakeholders.
  • Facilitate community and stakeholder consultations.
  • Assist and advise on organisation/charity compliance, policies and risk assessments.
  • Identify funding opportunities and advise on preparing funding applications.
  • Help design and deliver project evaluation.
  • Develop and deliver training.
  • Guide processes of volunteer recruitment and creating resources
  • Create factsheets targeting community led initiatives.
  • Create videos demonstrating important aspects of a project.
  • Create case studies demonstrating success.

Qualifications and skills

To be successful in this role you will ideally have a relevant degree, a higher education qualification or equivalent experience. You will have experience of project management and be confident working with a diverse range of people and groups. You will have excellent social skills. You will ideally have experience of delivering social media campaigns and video production. You will be highly organised, have the ability to prioritise and have good time management skills. You will have an interest and knowledge in the environment.
