We have an exciting opportunity for a Country Parks Lead Ranger with Buckinghamshire Council.
Buckinghamshire Councils Country Parks manages 3 popular Country Parks covering approximately 850 acres and attracting in excess of 1,000,000 visitors a year.
About the role
The Lead Ranger is a person that makes things happen on the ground. You will manage and lead a small team of rangers in Black Park Country Park, 535 acres of mixed woodland, a 14 acre lake and lowland heath. Operating on a self-financed basis our visitors are very important to us and we cater for them by providing play areas, cafes, toilets, car parks and Go Ape! You will deliver high quality visitor services and site presentation, oversee the daily operation of site facilities, plan and deliver woodland management, lead on lowland heath restoration, and manage all aspects of health and safety associated with the day to day operation of a busy country park.
We require you to live on-site in a 3 bedroom property for better performance of duties, contribute to an on-call rota and respond to incidents and emergencies as required. The role also requires you to work alternate weekends, bank holidays and some shifts through extended seasonal opening hours.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, organised, customer focused person with strong practical skills and a passion for nature and the outdoors. You will have an excellent working knowledge and extensive experience in the use of equipment, tools and machinery associated with countryside management. You will have previous experience of planning the work of a team, writing specification and managing contractors and working to site management plans. You will have good working knowledge of site health and safety including risk assessment and ideally have previous experience of woodland management and tree safety inspections.
