Summer Bat Surveyors

Looking to gain work experience in ecology for your CV? Or are you an experienced or licensed bat surveyor?

Are you available to undertake bat surveys during late evenings/early mornings during the summer? If so, ECOSA would like to hear from you!

Each year, ECOSA relies on a pool of skilled bat surveyors to help deliver our busy survey schedule. Ideally, you will be able to commit to joining us on a regular/semi-regular basis on weeknights/early mornings during May to September to undertake dusk and dawn bat survey work. This work generally involves surveying from around sunset to two hours after sunset and for two hours before sunrise until sunrise. Therefore, a reasonable level of fitness and willingness to work antisocial hours is essential.

Full training from experienced ecologists will be provided. We look for a high standard of work and competence in producing clear and thorough results. Applications from licensed bat workers or experienced bat surveyors are particularly welcomed, including those working on a subcontractor basis.

You would ideally be based within reasonable travelling distance of either our Head Office in Hampshire or Gloucestershire Office (and the adjoining counties) and we would also welcome applicants located across southern England.

We generally carry out survey works across the south/south-east and west; however, you may be required to travel further afield and stay in accommodation overnight. Having your own transport, being a confident driver with a willingness to drive to survey sites and holding a full driving licence is therefore essential.

This role is ideal if you have a keen interest in ecology and are looking to increase your knowledge and gain valuable work experience in this field. Contracts are offered on a zero hours basis with surveys fitted in to meet your existing commitments. Rates of pay are hourly and between £16.50 and £24.00 per hour subject to experience. Where you are looking to apply on a subcontractor basis please set this out in your application along with you hourly rates.
