Durham Wildlife Trust

Stronger Shores Marine Engagement Officer

Salary £27,500
Full Time
Fixed term contract for 36 months
Closing date for applications is: 9am Monday 3rd April

The Stronger Shores project (led by South Tyneside Council) represents a truly innovative approach working collaboratively with leading academics and Wildlife Trusts and other nature conservation NGO’s. The project will improve understanding of the benefits of kelp, seagrass and native oyster habitats with regard to coastal erosion, flood risk, climate change, biodiversity management and wider benefits.

Stronger Shores brings together the Durham, Northumberland, and Tees Valley Wildlife Trusts, to deliver a suite of exciting engagement activities. These activities are linked to partners work on Seagrass, Kelp and Oysters. This will involve Durham Wildlife Trust hosting a Marine Engagement Officer, as part of the project Integrated Delivery Team, who will work across the project area from Lindisfarne to Skinningrove.

The Engagement Officer will lead on the delivery of marine engagement work. The role will incorporate project partner’s work into a cohesive engagement programme across the project area for three years. This will be the development and delivery of an annual events series, focusing on public, citizen science, schools and STEM activities. As well as in person events the Officer will also facilitate online events mirroring the North Sea Wildlife Trust’s highly successful ‘Living Seas Live’ evening talk’s series. The Officer will have the opportunity to contribute towards social media and digital documentary short films promoting Stronger Shores kelp, seagrass and native oyster work.

This role will suite anyone who is passionate about our coastal and marine environments and who wants to generate that same passion in others across the generations.

Based at Durham Wildlife Trust’s Head Office: Rainton Meadows, Houghton-le-Spring, DH4 6PU, with an opportunity to work on occasion from partner Trust offices. The Trust is currently operating hybrid working arrangements, with a split between working from home and at the office.
