Land Management - Contracting Supervisor

An exciting opportunity for an individual with experience in the fields of arboriculture and land management to take a practical management role in our land management division.

GE Consulting are a well-established consultancy providing ecology, arboriculture and land management services to a wide range of clients across the south of England and Wales.

Our land management division carry out a range of activities including; tree surgery, sensitive vegetation clearance, ecological mitigation and habitat creation. With the company’s core focus being that of an environmental consultancy we are looking for an individual with a clear interest in the natural environment.

Whilst this role is focused on the land management division we are seeking an individual with the interest to assist on ecological tasks as and when the needed. All training would be provided for these additional tasks but these elements will add variety and interest to the role. For clarity this role should not be seen as a stepping stone to becoming an ecologist it is for someone committed to a land management career.

Role

  • On site supervision of contracting works including conducting works yourself
  • Managing, preparing and implementing risk assessments and other health & safety policies and procedures
  • Quoting and costing projects
  • Responsibility for equipment checks (PUWER), maintenance and purchasing

   
Essential skills and experience

  • A full driving licence
  • Track record of delivering habitat contracting work
  • Ability to tow (all UK licences now allow up to 3500kg)
  • Chainsaw tickets (cross cutting and felling as a minimum) & strong experience of tree work
  • Real team player (sense of humour for those bad weather days!)
  • Strong work ethic for what is often tough physical work

   
Desirable skills and experience

  • Climbing ticket
  • CSCS Card
  • Experience of operating an excavator
  • Other tickets including brush cutter, chipper etc.
  • Experience of habitat creation (tree, hedge planting) and management
  • Experience of ecological survey or mitigation work
  • Tickets for herbicide application
