Cheshire Woodlands is looking for an experienced and passionate tree professional who will help us build on our strengths and advance our mission of providing ever more effective tree management solutions. Established in 1995, our consultancy serves a wide range of clients, primarily in the north-west and north midlands of England, providing expert consulting across the gamut of arboricultural and urban forestry services.


You will be part of a small team providing specialist advice and expert evidence on a wide range of tree related issues including urban forestry, pre-planning tree surveys and reports, tree risk management, post-subsidence assessment, assessment of tree stability, woodland management and diagnosis of ill-health and tree diseases.


Skills and experience needed:


  • A qualification in arboriculture to a minimum of ‘National Qualifications Framework’ Level 6.
  • At least 5 years post qualification experience in private consultancy delivering a range of arboricultural and urban forestry services
  • Professional membership of the ICF or another relevant professional body. Candidates should be Chartered or working toward Chartered status
  • Excellent communication and ‘people skills’
  • The ability to always approach challenges with a positive attitude and work both on own initiative and as part of a team
  • The ability to communicate and work closely with local authority tree officers, planners, architects, ecologists and other professionals
  • Excellent IT skills and a sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office and AutoCad are essential
  • Current driving licence


Job Tasks


  • Assess trees and woodlands and provide written technical advice and reports to clients for a range of purposes including:
    • sustainable management of tree populations
    • development planning applications
    • silvicultural and landscape management
    • managing risks to people and property
    • mortgage and subsidence assessments
  • Produce technical drawings/plans using AutoCad and MapInfo
  • Maintain clear records of all work tasks


Hours & Environment


Post hours are 40/week and office hours are 8am-5pm, Monday to Friday. You will be based in Macclesfield and will spend some of your time visiting client’s properties with occasional overnight stays away. You will also be required to attend conferences, trade fairs and exhibitions from time to time.


Holiday entitlement will be 28 days/year including public holidays.




Salary is negotiable and dependent on ability and experience. We also offer a company contribution to a personal pension equivalent to 6% of salary, or membership of a company pension scheme equivalent to 5% of salary.
