Job Purpose: To be responsible for the co-ordination of the Trustís volunteer programme and to undertake effective communication activities as part of the VWTís awareness raising and public/stakeholder engagement programme.

 

This post is a newly created permanent role, with the aim of further developing our volunteer provision to meet the needs of the organisation and our volunteers and to achieve this through the establishment of systems of working that help us engage with, administer and support the Trustís growing network of volunteers. In addition, the officer will support the Head of Communications in delivering the Trustís communications strategy.

 

Main duties:

 

  • Develop a volunteer strategy, ensuring this complements the Trustís conservation, communication and business strategies.
  • Recruit and train volunteers to work alongside VWT staff. Ensure the volunteer recruitment procedure is followed vigorously and all volunteers receive appropriate induction and training by staff.
  • Further develop the volunteer administration system, ensuring this remains in line with best practice and current legislation. Maintain up-to-date records of all VWT volunteers and liaise with VWT staff to ensure records are accurate.
  • Organise training, events and resources for volunteers. Develop ways of recognising the contributions made by volunteers.
  • Use a range of communication methods to ensure volunteers are engaged, including social media platforms, newsletters and face-to-face communication.
  • Support line managers with projects and events involving volunteers, local communities and others, and where appropriate take a lead role in project management and implementation.
  • Manage the volunteer budget.
  • Manage the VWT Contacts Database and ensure it remains in line with GDPR.
  • With other members of the communications team, seek opportunities to promote the Trustís work through, for example, the organisation of blogs, digital content and newsletters, with contributions from both staff and volunteers. 
  • Assist with social media output, website updates and news releases.
