Vacancy: Senior Forestry Consultant

Tenure: Permanent

Location: Fort William, Inverness or Perth,

Hours: 35 hours per week

We are looking for a Senior Forestry Consultant to join our well-established teams in either Fort William or Perth.  Bidwells forestry team, based in Perth and Fort William, is actively involved in a wide range of forestry issues, ranging from strategic management of institutional portfolios through estate forest management, valuations, purchases & sales, to one off consultancy work and new woodland creation projects.

 

You should have Forestry management / consultancy experience, be fully conversant and experienced in the successful application of the Scottish Rural Development Programme (SRDP) grant system and have strong, up-to-date knowledge of forestry and rural issues.

 

It is important that you can work both independently and alongside other team members to efficiently undertake Bidwells’ forestry advisory / management role on retained clients' properties, as well as helping to develop profitable new business.  

 

The Role

As a key member of the forestry team and, you will be expected to assist in the production of valuation and consultancy reports, produce annual and long-term budgets/work programmes, control and report on budgets.  In addition:

Forestry Consultancy

  • Provide one-off forestry advice to new and repeat business clients.
  • Identify new opportunities and follow up on existing opportunities to provide forestry consultancy advice.
  • Undertake valuations of forests.
  • Manage the sale and purchasing of forests on behalf of clients.
  • Advising clients regarding; overseeing restocking of felled areas and maintenance of new planting schemes; monitoring harvesting contracts; progress planning and EIA determinations in relation to planting schemes and forest road infrastructure.

Strategic Management

  • Be fully conversant with the objectives and strategic direction of the client.
  • Negotiate the strategic direction of forests – vetting SRDP proposals, long term forestry plans etc.
  • Make long and short-term recommendations to clients
  • Work together with Forestry Managers to devise and agree schedule of work programmes
