Nature Reserve Warden

Location: Warrington, Cheshire

Contract: Initially for 12 months, covering maternity leave

Hours: Full time, 37.5 per week, including occasional weekend working

Salary: Up to 20,000 per annum, dependent on experience

 

Description

An opportunity has arisen with to work for a leading waste management company, looking after Moore Nature Reserve, which is associated with a large closed landfill site in Warrington, Cheshire

 

Key responsibilities

  • H&S for all site users staff, volunteers, contractors, consultants and visitors
  • Undertaking practical habitat and infrastructure works
  • Patrolling the site and keeping records of safety checks
  • Managing budgets
  • Preparing and following work programmes based on management plan
  • Organising and leading a programme of educational events
  • Representing FCC Environment in a positive manner to the general public
  • Keeping good records of all activities, incidents, wildlife records

 

Qualifications

  • Further / higher education qualification in Ecology, Conservation or related subject is preferable
  • Experience of day to day management of public access recreational site is preferable

 

Experience

  • Used to working outdoors in all conditions and physical work involving use of power tools and hand tools
  • High level of responsibility and accountability at all times.
  • Proven record of managing own workload.
  • Good timekeeping.
  • Comfortable giving presentations to a wide range of audiences.
  • Comfortable dealing with the general public.
  • Ability to enforce site rules to ensure health and safety of visitors, sometimes in challenging situations.
