Countryside Estate Worker

£18000.00 - £22000.00 depending on experience  

 

Kehoe countryside Ltd is looking for a countryside estate worker to help with an exciting range of countryside management contracts including works for the RSPB, Wildlife Trust, Local councils, Woodland Trust, Natural Resources wales and other partners. Welsh speaking is preferred but not essential.  

 

In this wide ranging ‘hands-on’ role you will be responsible for the day to day tasks including:

 

  • Following H&S procedures and ensuring a safe place of work including keeping up with ISO 18001 and ISO 9001 protocol.
  • Following BS 8555 environmental standard and ensuring legal, environmental, H&S compliance
  • Safety checks including trees and park infrastructure 
  • Liaising with the public and working alongside volunteers groups
  • Vegetation clearance, brush cutting and clearance by chainsaw
  • Footpath and track maintenance
  • Tree works including tree safety, coppicing, planting and maintenance of newly planted trees
  • Routine maintenance and installation of, bridges, board walks, signs and benches
  • Habitat creation and maintenance including species rich hay meadows, heathland, fens and woodland
  • Fencing, post and rail and livestock
  • Lawn and garden maintenance
  • Walling, stone pitching and slate fencing works
  • Helping manage contractors
  • Machine work, excavator, tractor, powered dumpers and robot controlled grass cutting

 

There will also be opportunities to assist in the implementation of conservation management plans; be active in the environmental monitoring of key habitats and species; maintain and improve access and interpretation; promote community and volunteer involvement.  

 

To be eligible you will ideally have either a formal qualification in countryside management or related discipline, with at least two years' post-qualification experience, or a minimum of five years’ experience of countryside work. H&S qualifications would be an advantage.  

 

You will need to be a good communicator and be able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of countryside management and nature conservation along with the ability to carry out the practical tasks associated with countryside management and visitor access. There will be a requirement for occasional weekend working.

  • Chainsaw - Basic, small trees and felling, windblown trees, multiple windblown trees, medium trees, large trees, climbing, aerial rescue
  • Brushcutter

  • Dumper
  • ATV
  • First aid and forestry
  • Manual handling
  • Asbestos awareness
  • Working at heights
  • Abrasive wheels
  • Pesticides
  • Ecological experience
