Coppice Worker

Working Area:   Kent / East Sussex 

Contract Type:  Initial 6 Month (with possible extension)


Opportunity for an experienced coppice worker to join a small dynamic, coppice business working mainly in chestnut Coppice woods in Kent & East Sussex. With the initial aim to fell some 3.8 Ha of Coppice wood between October-March and thereafter produce post & rail, fence post, and a range of other wonderful coppice products. 


Key work areas: 


The successful candidate will become part of a purpose driven team contributing to the development of a small enterprising business.  Felling coppice stands, operating an ROV with mounted skidding winch. Grading out and selecting product for appropriate use. Applying traditional coppice skills coupled with conversion machinery point peeler etc, to add value to timber. Operations will follow UK Health & Safety standards & FISA forestry standards the successful candidate is expected to work to these standards.



  • Good standard of English spoken & written.
  • Coppice craft apprenticeship or able to demonstrate experience and practice in this type of work.
  • Current driving licence with B1 & BE
  • NPTC Chainsaw qualifications 201,202,203 



  • ROV operation.
  • First aid (F)
  • Degree In Forestry or related area.


Candidate profile: 


Work in forestry and in particular hand cutting, is arduous; requires a level of fitness to meet the demands of the work. Working at pace is expected. You should have and maintain an active interest in expanding your knowledge of areas of skill related to your role in the team. Whilst using traditional skills you will be expected to apply technology to achieve efficient and effective business results.
