Biodiversity Warden

Location: Isle of Man

Contract: 1 year fixed term contract

Hours: 37 hours per week, including working weekends and bank holidays

Salary: 20,717 to 25,574 + 10% per annum

 

An opportunity has arisen to recruit a Biodiversity Warden to work within the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture for 1 year. You will be responsible for the day to day running of the Ayres National Nature Reserve on the north-west coast of the Island.

 

The Ayres National Nature Reserve is 273 ha of coastal habitats including shingle beach, sand dunes, dune grassland, lichen heath, gaelic heath, dune slacks and scrub. The NNR is an important location for breeding birds including terns, ringed plover, oystercatcher, curlew, lapwing and skylark. In the bird breeding season, the main focus of the role is managing and monitoring nesting birds.

 

You should have a passion for nature conservation, an excellent knowledge of ornithology and relevant work experience. Winter tasks include supervising the habitat management on the NNR, analysing data, report writing and working on projects to enhance the NNR for wildlife and for people, as well as preparing for the next breeding season.
