This is a stimulating role for a candidate wishing to make a real difference to the water quality and habitat of rivers in the Yorkshire Dales and surrounding areas downstream, mainly in the River Wharfe catchment.

The successful candidate will work with partner organisations, volunteers, farmers and landowners, contractors  and other Yorkshire Dales Rivers Trust staff to deliver land management, river restoration and flood management projects which aim to improve the ecological status of water courses, as defined by the Water Framework Directive and reduce the severity of flood events for downstream urban communities. This is a development post, where a successful candidate will work closely with/ be overseen by senior staff members with a view to progressing to project officer managing projects alone.

The project assistant will be responsible for every aspect of the projects from ensuring they are delivered on time, to budget and with agreed quality standards.  The project assistant will also carry out some of the practical river work with the help of volunteers.  A key element of the Trustís project delivery is partnership working.  The assistant project officer will agree priorities with project partners/ funders and liaise with farmers and landowners to explain the objectives of the project, gain permission to carry out works on private land and seek funding or practical contributions.  The project assistant will also promote the project through the Trustís website, social media and newspaper articles.  The assistant project officer will design and populate a project database, analyse data and produce maps and reports for the project.
