About Us

The Woodland Trust is the UK’s leading woodland conservation charity.  We want to see a UK rich in native woods and trees, for people and wildlife. The Trust aims to engage and inspire people about woods and trees to help us meet our vision of creating, restoring and protecting woodland. We own and care for over 1,000 woodland sites across the United Kingdom and support the creation and management of woodland on others’ land.

The Role

We’re looking for a Site Manager to join the southeast regional estate team and to manage a diverse portfolio of woodlands across Surrey and West Kent to the highest professional standard, in line with the Trusts policies and standards and to ensure the safety of our visitors, contractors and volunteers.

As Site Manager, you will represent the Woodland Trust locally, lead on land based and forestry operations such as silvicultural management of young secondary woodland sites through to PAWS, public access improvements and deal with the impacts of Ash Dieback and other tree pests and diseases while advocating our work, engaging volunteers, communities and supporters and influencing others to act.

Using Woodland Trust systems and databases you will carry out tree safety inspections, risk assessments, review site management plans in line with FSC and UKWAS, apply for felling licences and for land-based grants, and implement planned works.

The Candidate

With previous experience in land-based management in the forestry or conservation sector, you’ll have a strong track record of managing sites particularly woodlands, project, budget and contract management, successful partnership working and Health and Safety management.

You will have excellent communication skills, be commercially aware and able to work with existing and build on effective partnerships.  A full driving licence is a must have, along with the ability to undertake travel across a wide area, sometimes to remote locations.  Occasional overnight stays will be required and you’ll be expected to live within a reasonable travel distance of the management area.

What You Can Expect

There’s no other organisation like the Woodland Trust. Whatever you do here you will be supporting our work to protect and enhance woods and trees. In return, we recognise and value our people. You'll have our full support, training and opportunities for professional development, along with contributory pension, life assurance and good holiday entitlement.
