Fixed Term Appointment ending 31 December 2019

Starting salary £30,837 per annum

Location: Inverness preferred, but other SNH office locations may be considered

This is an exciting opportunity to help deliver a new fund which will support major tourism projects which promote the natural and cultural assets of the Highlands & Islands.

Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) has been appointed by Scottish Government as the Lead Partner for the new Natural & Cultural Heritage Fund (NCHF). This is part of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) Programme, which aims to increase economic activity and employment. NCHF will support major capital infrastructure tourism projects such as visitor and cultural centres, as well as digital interpretation and campaigns. £5m is available from ERDF for this which, as the intervention rate is 70%, means an overall programme of over £7m once match funding is included. It is expected that the money will be allocated during a funding round in early 2019 with successful projects then delivered over 2019/20 and 2020/21.

The purpose of this post is to promote the Fund, advise potential applicants to the Fund as they develop their project ideas, and then support grantees to get projects up and running. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate strong skills in partnership working and delivering projects. Experience of working within a funding environment would be highly advantageous as would previous experience of working in a natural heritage, cultural heritage and / or tourism related post.

The post sits within SNH’s Structural Funds Project team which is also delivering another strand of the Scottish Government’s ERDF programme – the Green Infrastructure Fund (GIF). The postholder may be asked to support some aspects of the delivery of the other Fund (GIF).

This post will focus primarily on delivery of the ERDF Natural & Cultural Heritage Fund, which covers the Highlands & Islands area (the local authority areas of Highland, Moray, Western Isles, Orkney, Shetland, Argyll and parts of North Ayrshire (Arran)). The post will involve extensive travel across the area. For this reason, an office base within one of these local authority areas is preferred.
