Overview

As our dedicated and stand-alone Arboriculturist, you’ll be regularly travelling nationally to one of our 33 established sites and additional prospective locations to manage trees. You will be able to respond at short notice to support our site teams.

You will be responsible for the inspection and management of over 2500 trees within the Go Ape estate. In addition to this you will provide technical, advisory and professional guidance to our management team.

You’ll play a pivotal role in implementing Go Ape’s tree strategy, carry out annual inspections on all our trees, monitor any arboriculture contractors, and respond to customer and management enquiries. You will also be required to provide professional advice on development applications (including the production of reports to BS5837:2012), protected trees and Insurance claims.

As a successful candidate you must have:

  • An appropriate and related professional arboriculture qualification (equivalent to level 3 or level 2 with the ability to reach level 3).
  • A full driving licence valid and access to a vehicle for use at work.
  • Proficient in accurate data entry, have the ability to demonstrate good IT skills in a number of applications, together with the ability to assimilate and source information to present written or verbal reports.
  • Interpret maps and technical plans.

Ideally you will have:

  • Excellent decay evaluation knowledge
  • Extensive experience of Picus Tomograph and Resistograph testing.
  • Tree strength assessment experience.
  • Be a practitioner in VTA (Visual Tree Assessment), Claus Mattheck and the Breloer process.
  • Have a good knowledge of conservation area and tree preservation order legislation.
  • Experience of GPS plotting and production of topographical mapping.
  • A proven ability to produce and implement Woodland management plans.
  • A tree consultancy background.

You will have experience in the arboriculture industry, but not necessarily with high ropes. This is a new in-house role, so we’re open minded about exploring the benefits that different backgrounds would bring and you will receive a full handover from our previous aboricultural lead.

You will develop a close working relationship with our landlords who range from private landowners to local authorities and government organisations. You will also work closely with both our internal and external specialist construction teams to assist with tree selection and assessment both prior to and during the construction of new courses along with recommendations on alterations during remedial works.
