The Conservation Volunteers – The Community Volunteering Charity

Every day TCV works across the UK to create healthier and happier communities for everyone - communities where our activities have a lasting impact on people’s health, prospects and outdoor places.

About the role:

Based at the TCV office in Hastings, but working throughout the county and occasionally beyond, this exciting role supports TCV in enabling people and communities to improve their health, prospects and outdoor places. We have an outstanding track record of delivering Health Walks across the county and we want to build on this, growing the Health Walk scheme, continuing to meet the needs of our diverse communities, existing and potential partners and becoming a beacon of best practice for us nationally.

This role, working 21 hours per week, is focused on delivering the Health Walk scheme across East Sussex. You will be a strong team player with a can do approach, bringing creativity and innovation to the team.

The post holder will support the Operations Leader in delivering the TCV Strategic Plan including business development and fundraising.

The post holder’s role will include:

  • Working with the existing Health Walk Project Officer to develop and co-ordinate a programme of Health Walks and training courses
  • Leading a large group (100) of volunteer Health Walk Leaders to ensure they receive an excellent volunteering experience whilst helping us to run 44 Health Walks
  • Marketing and publicity to enable success and significantly raise our profile in the vicinity
  • Recruiting and developing Volunteer Officers to support the project

Experience required:

  • Co-ordinating volunteers
  • Working with partner organisations to deliver healthy lifestyle projects
  • Fundraising

The Conservation Volunteers supports a flexible approach to determining the actual days and hours worked by the post holder, although they will be expected to remain flexible with their work days, as delivery times may vary from week to week and will occasionally include weekend and evening work.

The successful candidate is likely to have previous experience of working with volunteers and community groups, knowledge of healthy lifestyles and public health issues. Our projects work with volunteers and people with a wide variety of ages, abilities and backgrounds. The successful candidate is likely to have experience of working with many sectors of the community delivering diverse activities.

The post holder will work as part of The Conservation Volunteers team which runs the TCV Hastings office and delivers outreach work across Sussex. We are a small team of staff & volunteers, supporting each other on all areas of work.

A full driving licence (for a manual transmission vehicle) is essential, (which has been held for a minimum of one year), as the post holder has use of company vehicles. D1 entitlement on your licence would be a bonus.

This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check.

A bit more about us:

We recognise that each community and the people living there have different needs.  Whether improving wellbeing, conserving a well-loved outdoor space or bringing people together to promote social cohesion and combat loneliness, TCV works together with communities to deliver practical solutions to the real life challenges they face.

For nearly 60 years we have adapted our work with volunteers to reflect the changing needs of communities in the UK and, by giving people a sense of purpose and belonging, we have empowered them to take control of their lives and outdoor spaces for the benefit of all.

Whilst our activities vary, our inclusive approach has remained consistent; bringing people and places together to create happy, healthy and connected communities for everyone.
