We are looking for two team leaders with excellent organisation and communication skills to head up the stoat eradication operation for the Orkney Native Wildlife Project. You must be experienced in delivering non-native species eradications on the ground and understand the requirements of such a large-scale project.

Salary 25,463 - 27,585 per annum
Hours: Full time
Contract: 5 years

You must have knowledge of mustelid biology and behaviour and practical experience of trapping and tracking them. You should also have experience of working with local communities in a collaborative and sensitive way. You will be primarily leading and co-ordinating a team of ten trappers to deliver the eradication. The two Eradication Operations Managers to be able to work closely in a close-knit team and ideally have experience of successfully leading a team. 

Key tasks will include:

  • responsibility for securing and maintaining land access agreements across the Orkney Mainland and linked isles
  • co-ordinating and monitoring the operation on the ground (using DOC traps and stoat detection dogs)
  • responsibility for leading and motivating a dedicated team of trappers and ensuring a high level of commitment and morale is maintained
  • responsibility for ensuring the well-being of the team of trappers, managing workloads, providing training and support to enable and maintain high standards of performance within the team
  • responsibility for identifying emerging operational issues and risks
  • planning and implementing a trap and vehicle maintenance schedule
  • planning and coordinating procurement of replacement traps and other equipment
  • working closely with the Programme Manager, Biosecurity Officer and other ONWP team members to maintain good communications and information transfer within the project team
