We are looking for a qualified professional with a passion for green infrastructure which can deliver to our fast growing borough who can maximise the benefits derived by the Community from attractive, functional and sustainable parks and open spaces to enhance their quality of life. The role is heavily involved in the Development and implementation of the Councilís policies in relation to Wildlife Conservation, Biodiversity Action Plans, Environmental Education and Community Involvement by the development of a programme of events to promote public awareness of wildlife issues.

 

Key Duties

  • To provide clear, timely, accurate and relevant advice to Development Control and others frequently conveying complex information
  • To ensure that the Councils landholdings, including Country/District/Local parks, public open spaces, wildlife sites, nature reserves, woodlands and farms are protected, conserved and managed to enable wide and inclusive use by the public.
  • To ensure environmental management schemes, biodiversity accounting and offsetting schemes
  • To pursue funding for improvements to the service to further the efficiency and effectiveness of the Council in fulfilling its statutory and policy responsibilities to protect or enhance the natural environment.

 

Experience, Qualifications and any Mandatory Requirements

  • Degree level qualification or equivalent experience in Ecology, or other related environmental subject.
  • Understanding of the national planning system for planning policy and Development Control and how planning outcomes comply with UK and EU legislation.
  • Specialist knowledge of conservation land management techniques to ensure effective and sustainable outcomes that conform with Council and Government Policy.  

 

Skills Required

  • Ability to assess ecological consultantís reports and plans, analyse their content and make formal responses
  • Ability to analyse highly complex information in relation to planning applications which may be contentious and can extend over prolonged periods of time, on occasion for several years.
  • Knowledge and experience of using a variety of MS Office, GiS mapping and CRM database software.
