Ecologist (development) (Part-time fixed term with a possibility of full time post / extension)

Somerset / Bristol based.

 

Experienced development ecologist required to deliver a broad range of ecological surveys and reports. Impact assessment and mitigation design skills required.

 

Closing date 31st May. Interviews w/c 10th June. Immediate start possible.

 

Primary duties

 

  • Preliminary Ecological Assessments (Extended Phase 1 survey & assessment)
  • Protected species survey design & implementation
  • Ecological Clerk of Works / watching briefs
  • Ecological Impact Assessments reports
  • Mitigation design & implementation (including some practical tasks)
  • Desk Studies
  • Producing reports and plans
  • Supervision of ecology assistants / ecological contractors
  • Liaison with statutory regulators
  • Support in the preparation of fee estimates

 

Experience and abilities:

 

  • 1+ years experience working as a Consultant Ecologist in the development sector
  • Confident at delivering Preliminary Ecological Assessments (including potential / presence of protected species and grassland type & quality.
  • Assessment of development impacts and recommending proportionate mitigation.
  • Design and implementation of bat surveys and use of acoustic analysis software.
  • Evidence of ability to provide high quality advice and consultancy level reports.
  • Experience of European Protected Species Mitigation Licence(s).
  • Able to liaise with ecological contractors to deliver timely mitigation in the field.
  • Willing to lend a hand with some practical ecological contracting tasks.

QGIS experience

 

Essential qualifications / certificates:

 

Ideally Master's degree or otherwise good Bachelor's degree in Ecology or related subject

One protected species survey licence

CIEEM membership

Full, clean driving licence and access to own vehicle & phone.

 

Desirable qualifications / certificates:

 

NPTC Level 2 Certificate of Competence in Brush cutting Operations (or willingness to acquire).

CSCS card

  • Effective project planning: plan ecological projects according to client need, to support ecological consultants and third party contractors. This would include timely purchase / management / maintenance of equipment and delivering reports and site based work to meet project deadlines, seasonal constraints and project budgets.
  • A good confident, self starter.
  • Flexible positive attitude, willing to deliver and help with a broad range of tasks to suit the needs of a small business.
  • Prepared to work anti-social hours.
  • Physically fit and able to work outdoors in a range of weather conditions.

 

Salary & Benefits

 

  • Salary 22,000-24,000 PA pro rata depending on experience.
  • 21 days holiday (pro rata)
