Logo: Historic Environment Scotland Assistant Ranger with Historic Environment Scotland

Our Assistant Rangersí duties, to care for and protect our historic environment, are carried out between Holyrood Park, Edinburgh and Linlithgow Peel, West Lothian, as well as other Historic Environment Scotland sites.  Assistant Rangers are a core part of a dynamic Ranger Team based in Holyrood Park working on a rota system of 5 out of 7 days including weekends, bank holidays and evenings. This is an exciting opportunity to enjoy an active and busy outdoor role in the Natural and Cultural Heritage sector.

The Assistant Rangersí tasks and roles are essentially outdoors, focus on vehicle and foot patrolling, visitor safety, operational management and emergency response, as well as delivering learning and community engagement activities, conservation survey work and volunteering opportunities. Our Assistant Rangers enjoy a strong focus on visitor engagement, landscape protection and nature conservation. We set exemplary standards in a variety of outstanding natural environments.

We need Assistant Rangers who love the outdoors, have a positive outlook, are physically fit and who have both experience in and enjoy talking confidently to members of the public. We expect our Assistant Rangers to be able to understand and interpret our sites for our audiencesí enhanced pleasure, access and appreciation. At the same time we need Assistant Rangers to enthusiastically encourage responsible public behaviour to help us protect our sites and their cultural significance for current and future users.

Closing date: 29 May 2019.
