The voice of our landscapes, conservation champions and lovers of all things outdoors, you値l help to keep the British countryside and coast wonderful. This is a really exciting opportunity for someone who has a passion for woodlands and the outdoors and for enabling people to get involved in our work. A desire to develop, take on new challenges and an ability to think on your feet is essential.  The role will be diverse, challenging and hard work but there is a great property team to support you and there値l be great job satisfaction.

The role is a 3 year contract, and you'll be an important part of the Penrose Ranger team, working within the larger Lizard and Penrose Countryside team. You'll be based out of the Ranger Office and workshops at Penrose and report to the Area Ranger (Access and Woodlands).

What it's like to work here

Penrose is home to woodland trails, coastline and popular beaches at Gunwalloe and open parkland; it's the perfect backdrop for a day out.

Penrose is a diverse mixture of woodland, farmland and coast through which there are over 20 miles of trails to explore by foot, bike or on horseback. Separated from the sea by the huge shingle bank of Loe Pool and surrounded by legends, the Pool is the largest natural freshwater lake in Cornwall and nestles between the communities of Helston and Porthleven.

Penrose forms part of the Lizard and Penrose Property. You値l be working alongside a team of Rangers, a team of weekly local volunteers, Walled Garden volunteers and occasional residential volunteer groups.

What you'll be doing

Ranger roles here are delegated on broad themes but good communication and team working ensures we approach all our work in an integrated way. The Lead Ranger covers management of tenanted farm land working closely with our Estate Manager, whilst Area Ranger roles are split between Conservation (Loe Pool and the coast) and Woodlands, access management and car parks.

The focus of this new role has two parts; firstly, to support our aims to make improvements in the way we care for our woodlands at Penrose, and secondly to provide increased support for our work managing access and car parks, particularly during the Easter to end September period. We are currently developing how we manage our holiday cottage gardens and this role will form part of that management.

With your endless passion for our work, you値l help with the protection and care of habitats, wildlife, property and machinery, and your passion will inspire other to love this beautiful place as much as you do. We want you to engage with visitors, making time to talk to them, not rushing away to the next task. As an easily identifiable member of the Ranger team, on your best day you will be creating lasting memories for everyone.

You値l make sure that, at every twist and turn of these fantastic landscapes, we池e delivering outstanding outdoors experiences and excellent conservation work. You値l share our common goal with customers and build relationships in the local community, proudly representing the National Trust. You値l also share and promote the work that we do here, ensuring special places like these are here to be both protected and enjoyed by everyone for ever.
