Summary

The voice of our landscapes, conservation champions and lovers of all things outdoors, youíll help to keep the British countryside and coast wonderful. Working in some of the nationís most stunning places and spaces, come rain or shine, your love of the outdoors will inspire others as you strive to ensure that landscapes are beautifully presented and continue to take our visitorsí breath away.

What it's like to work here

The Lake District is one of the most diverse, interesting and challenging areas in the whole of The National Trust. Millions of people visit the Lakes every year and one of our key challenges is how to connect more and better with these people, from all round the world, when they are here. We look after some of the most beautiful and iconic parts in the North Lakes around Borrowdale and Buttermere, with links to Beatrix Potter and her legacy of land, farms and buildings and artwork. This role is based at Bowe Barn in Keswick and will be working in the surrounding stunning areas.

What you'll be doing

Based primarily at Keswick, you may also on occasion be required to start your day at either Loweswater or Whitehaven, as you will be working across the whole of the area cared for by the National Trustís North Lakes Ranger Team. You'll play a key part in helping to deliver the National Trustís Land, Outdoors and Nature strategy. As well as creating and restoring wildlife habitats, you'll help the Property in trying to understand what we look after through record keeping and the monitoring of our sites, many of which have Designated Status. You'll be part of a broader team of Countryside staff aiming to achieve all of the above.

As well as working with the Area Rangers on the Property, you'll help deliver the immediate teamís work plan, carrying out high quality practical work in the countryside to provide outstanding conservation. You'll also take the lead on certain projects and objectives and manage your time effectively so that you can still carry out the day to day tasks given to the team. You'll ensure that your work complies with all regulations to protect the environment, but also look after the health and safety of yourself and others, carrying out risk assessments and always ensuring safe working practices are adhered to.

You'll manage and work alongside volunteers to make sure the demands of the property can be met. You'll also maintain good relations with our tenants and partners in the local community and ensure that there is excellent communication with visitors to explain the need for the work being carried out. Your approach will protect and enhance the Trustís assets and reputation in the Lake District.
