This post will contribute to the delivery of Scottish Natural Heritage’s objectives within the Southern Scotland Unit. This post will principally deliver within the Scottish Borders local authority area but will also support work in other parts of the Unit.

 

The posts main areas of work will include the provision of advice on protected areas to local authorities, competent authorities and land managers. They will also contribute to the monitoring of protected areas and advise on, and assess, agri-environment applications.

 

You must have a degree or HND in an environmental discipline or countryside management, or relevant practical experience in environmental or countryside management. You must also have excellent organisational and time management skills and judgement to effectively prioritise a high volume of reactive and proactive workload. Communication skills, both written and verbal including IT are a must and to have the ability to engage, influence, communicate effectively with land managers. Also you must have valid driving licence or alternative means of accessing remote countryside sites. Finally, you must have knowledge and experience of species ecology, habitat types and land use in Scotland, with the understanding of working with designated areas including experience of project management on designated sites.
