About us:

Established in 1975, Hertfordshire’s Countryside Management Service was one of the first initiatives of its type in the UK.  A recent restructure has brought the service together with our Rights of Way teams creating the Countryside and Rights of Way Service.

Together we work in partnership with landowners and communities to manage our access network and develop projects that enhance the environment for people and wildlife. We also provide opportunities for informal recreation through leading events and guided walks, promoting cycle routes linking towns and the countryside and devising site based leaflets and interpretation. Our current project portfolio includes a considerable range of work across a number of key sites and habitats including: woodland management at a range of scales, heathland restoration in Hertfordshire’s only NNR, chalk river restoration and developing old railway lines as non-motorised transport routes.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing a professional land management advisory service to our partners
  • Writing management plans for Green Flag Award winning greenspaces
  • Securing funds from external providers
  • Producing specifications, procuring works and managing delivery through contractors
  • Working collaboratively with our Access and Communities Teams to support a diverse portfolio of activity

  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Excellent career development potential
  • Salary exchange for additional benefits
  • Local Government Pension Scheme with generous employer contributions
  • Occupational maternity/paternity and adoption pay
  • A range of wellbeing and reward schemes
