Salary:  £23,772 - £27,012

Locations:  Llyn Brenig - Cerrigydrudion

Who we are

When you think about it, water is the most basic human need.  So what we do at Welsh Water is incredibly important – we give three million customers safe, clean water, take away their dirty water and help to protect our beautiful environment.  It’s an awesome responsibility, and we have to earn our customers’ trust every single day. Being the only not-for-profit company in the utilities sector is certainly a good start.  Every single penny we make goes back into looking after their water and environment, rather than going to the pockets of shareholders.

What we do

Our reservoirs provide the drinking water, not only for the people of Wales but also across the border into parts of England.  They also provide a vital habitat for wildlife and consequently are all very popular with walkers and wildlife enthusiasts while offering a great and beautiful work environment.

We have visitor centres at four of our largest reservoirs, each offering a cafe and retail area in some of the most beautiful settings in Wales.  Our colleagues provide great levels of customer service, freshly prepared meals and snacks, and of course a great cup of coffee.  Our centres are popular throughout the year, especially during high season between April and October.

With over 2500 acres, Llyn Brenig is a forested site with trout fishery and visitor centre, cafe and cycle hire in Conwy north Wales.  Our visitor centre is open all year round with extended opening during the fishing season.  The lake is considered to be the best top of the water fishery in the UK, with anglers travelling from afar to experience the fly fishing that Llyn Brenig has on offer.

What you’ll do

Be the public face of Dŵr Cymru, demonstrating first class customer service at all times. Working with the Area Lands Manager, you will deliver an outstanding quality of service to our 150k visitors a year by maintaining our facilities to ensure the site is safe for staff and visitors and by developing relationships with stakeholders.

The role is critical to delivery of our statutory duties for access, conservation and recreation and you will be a visible presence on site, engaging with visitors as an ambassador of Dŵr Cymru, interpreting the wildlife and amenity features to enhance the visitor experience.

Support visitors as they discover and explore the site. As part of this, maximise opportunities for enhancing the visits by creating memorable experiences and deliver temporary interpretation to inspire a range of audiences, especially families.

Operate a patrol boat to monitor and ensure customer safety on the water.

Ensure your team carry out regular maintenance of the site and upkeep of buildings including the general tidiness of the site, litter picking, toilet cleaning, and maintenance of amenity routes and facilities including the maintenance and replacement of gates, styles, fences, and signage.  Manage the visitor facilities so that they are kept clean, safe and compliant, with records maintained.   Arrange the upkeep, maintenance and specialist servicing and cleaning of all public and non-public areas.

Champion the ‘no swimming in reservoirs’ rule and enforce the rules of the amenity areas and the waterside.

Be the local employee engagement champion.

Contribute to the positive promotion of the site by regular contact with public, partner organisations and community groups; supporting conservation, educational, public access and recreational activities, open days and developing the programme of events.

Carry out any other tasks as required for the effective management of the site, as directed by the area lands manager

You will also tend to any other Dŵr Cymru sites in the region which are actively managed sites with public access.

Lead a team of seasonal and permanent rangers and fish farmers for the stewardship of the Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water (DCWW) estate at Llyn Brenig.

You will manage your team so that they safeguard and actively assist the members of the public who visit the reservoir and visitor centre, so that they enjoy their visit to the full.
