The voice of our landscapes, conservation champions and lovers of all things outdoors, you値l help to keep our outdoor heritage wonderful. Working in some of the nation痴 most stunning places and spaces, come rain or shine, your love of the outdoors will inspire others as you strive to ensure that landscapes are beautifully presented and continue to take our visitor痴 breath away.


Please be advised in this role the working days will be Tuesday to Saturday; however flexibility will be required during the holiday periods to meet the needs of the business. Further details will be discussed at interview stage.


Internally, you値l be known as our Ranger, and this will also be reflected in your contract of employment.


What it's like to work here

The wild and dramatic landscape of Wicken Fen is truly awe-inspiring. The fen is one of Europe痴 most important wetlands and home to more than 8.500 species, including plants, birds and dragonflies. The close-knit team members are devoted to the conservation of this rich habitat and are looking for dedicated people to help with this important task. A high level of visitor engagement makes Wicken Fen a very rewarding place to work.


What you'll be doing

With your endless passion for our work, you値l help with the protection and care of our habitats, wildlife, property and machinery and your passion will inspire others to love this beautiful place as much as you do.


You値l be assisting our other Grazing Ranger with the day to day management of our extensive grazing programme - this will include monitoring and undertaking daily checks on our herds of Highland Cattle and Konlik Ponies. There are over 40 miles of fences and associated livestock handling facilities at Wicken Fen, and you値l work alongside our established Ranger team to keep them in good working order.


You値l also be helping our Area Ranger with all aspects of conservation work across Wicken Fen, and will help to ensure that we池e delivering outstanding outdoors experiences for our visitors. You値l work with local groups on conservation projects across the reserve, and will also help to supervise and train our committed team of volunteers. So whether you池e delivering walking talks for our visitors, or assisting with the care of our livestock, no two days will be the same.


You値l share and promote the work that we do here, ensuring special places like these are here to be both protected and enjoyed by everyone for ever. This will see you responding to visitor queries and explaining the value of the work being undertaken. After all, your passion and dedication could fire the imagination that makes a visitor become a supporter for the rest of their life.


Who we're looking for

You値l need to;

  • Deliver practical conservation work to protect and enhance the conservation status of the property
  • Demonstrate a passion for nature, heritage and the outdoors and have previous experience of working in an outdoor setting
  • Be able to engage with visitors to ensure they understand the value of your work
  • Be an excellent team player
  • Be able to work safely, with risk assessments and compliance with safety procedures
  • Experience in a land, access and conservation management as well as previous experience of working with livestock
  • Competence with machinery and equipment as well as having the relevant certificates required. Additionally, you値l also have experience of tractor driving and have a trailer licence
  • A full UK driving licence
