Working to the Enterprise Data Management; Specialist Adviser, the post holder will be responsible for the delivery of specific data and GIS projects as part of NRW’s wider program to deliver new approaches to the Sustainable Management of Natural Resources (SMNR).  The post will also contribute to the delivery of evidence in support of the legislative reporting obligations under the Environment (Wales) Act (2016), Wellbeing of Future Generations Act (2015) and the Welsh Government Natural Resource Policy (2017).


The post holder will work across NRW Directorates and Departments and engage with external stakeholders to assist the Specialist Adviser in defining the requirements for data and information and manage projects that will ensure the delivery of evidence to support the Sustainable Management of Natural Resources. In addition to this, the post holder will support and help drive the delivery of an online data and information portal, as part of the new ways of working under SMNR. 


Job Specific Criteria:

  1. A good grounding in data management, environmental science or computer science, preferably with a degree in a relevant subject area
  2. Good time management, organisation and motivation, including taking responsibility for developing and delivering project plans and your own work plan
  3. Good communication and co-delivery skills (including the ability to communicate technical information and compelling evidence to both technical and non-technical stakeholders)
  4. Good technical skills including data management, web development and/or GIS including:
  5. Experience in data science, analytics and infographics (systems, tools, analysis and presentation techniques that enable the presentation of maps and data from numerous sources to provide compelling evidence). Experience in leading web mapping projects and/or data delivery through the web will be an advantage
  6. An understanding of the Environment (Wales) Act 2016 and the Wellbeing of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2016 with a good grounding in the principles of sustainable management of natural resources and their application to data and GIS would be an advantage
