Salary within the range £40,411 to £43,779 pa

Itchen Valley Country Park covers 440 beautiful acres mixed woodland, river and meadow landscapes together with a Visitor Centre, refurbished Woodland Café and play and BBQ areas.  Lakeside covers 60 acres and is on the site of old gravel workings, with lakes formed from gravel pits. As well as the lakes themselves, the park boasts a stunning waterside conference centre for multi-functional use.  The Parks are fundamental to the council’s environment and wellbeing strategies and are a vital part of our community.


The Country Parks Manager will be responsible for the overall management of the two parks ensuring the facilities are maintained and operated to their full potential, increasing the number of visitors to our country parks by developing sound business cases for new commercial opportunities, including robust mechanisms for monitoring and measuring success.


This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious manager to take charge of a business unit with considerable untapped potential and shape and develop that unit to become a real commercial success while improving the offer and quality of life for Hampshire residents. The new manager will develop existing partners, add new partners and also bring forward our own service to make our parks amongst the best


You will be responsible for developing a country parks strategy and working with key partners and councillors to ensure a successful commercial approach that increases visitor numbers, increases income generation and enhances visitor experience. You will also be accountable for overall operational management of the Country Parks function, including a strong emphasis on health and safety, and overall management of staff and resources including budget and other assets.


You will need a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a management role in visitor services or similar customer-facing environment together with a track record of improving customer service, developing business opportunities, partnership management and income generation. Excellent financial and budgetary skills and the ability to analyse and present financial data will also be a pre-requisite.
