Do you want to work at a dynamic and exciting wetland with the potential to deliver first class habitat creation and visitor experience?

We are looking for someone to thrive, succeed and play a vital role as our reserve moves into its next chapter.

Warden
Ref: A5690219
Location: Middleton Lakes
Salary: 22,073 - 23,912
Hours: Full time
Contract: Permanent

A decade ago this reserve was a quarry, now it is full of wildlife. Every year we find new species which have colonised the site! For an inland nature reserve, we certainly punch above our weight!

Our wetland conservation effort is focused on breeding and migrating waders, reed bed for bittern and maintain a mosaic of wetland habitat. Our woodland and scrub habitats are locally important for populations of willow tit and lesser spotted woodpecker. We have a fantastic heronry which has attracted little egret as a breeding species.

Our ideal candidate will

  • have excellent reserve management experience,
  • be competent at using and maintaining a range of machinery
  • show great personal organisation skills needed to keep a site safe and compliant.

We have visitor and grazing infrastructure, so experience of creating and manging this is a must. Natural history knowledge is essential as you will be involved in leading biological surveys. Livestock management experience is advantageous as we own a herd of konik ponies and longhorned cattle.

We have a large volunteer team and run a successful internship programme so the ability to manage your own workload while ensuring these are kept busy, supported and happy is essential.

This role offers a unique opportunity to leave your mark on this rapidly developing site.

Closing: 3 March 2019
