Lindisfarne National Nature Reserve stretches 65km of coastline from Cheswick to Budle Bay and covers 3,500 hectares of extensive duneland, mud flats, saltmarsh, rocky shore, sandy beaches, and a fresh water lough on Holy Island. Lindisfarne NNR is looking to hire seasonal Shorebird Wardens to work on our Breeding Shorebird Protection Scheme, which is principally charged with protecting: Little, Arctic and Common Terns, Ringed Plover and Oystercatcher.


The successful candidates will be responsible for monitoring and protecting shorebirds at one or more of the breeding sites across the NNR. This includes daily counts of adults, chicks and fledglings of each species, as well as conducting feeding surveys and deterring predators. You will be required to engage with members of the public visiting the nesting sites, educating them on the sensitivities of the breeding birds and enforcing public exclusion zones, as well as contributing to the end of season Shorebird Report.

Lone working will be involved, often in remote locations.
